Trestles Footbridge

Location: San Onofre, CA
Team: Dan Brill, Ashley Ford
Visualization: Dan Brill

This project provides a new pedestrian route from a bluff top parking lot to a popular surf beach in southern California, bridging a high-speed railway and wetlands nature reserve.

The bridge offers a dynamic and sculptural counterpoint to the existing landscape, and incorporates a lifeguard tower, toilets, outside showers, drinking fountains, and a kiosk.

Made of weathering steel, the structure minimizes the requirement for foundations within the nature reserve and provides a robust finish well-suited to the sea air.
